The Big Apple may not be the first holiday destination that springs to mind when you’re the parent of a toddler or pre-schooler, however dig a bit deeper and you’ll see that NY isn’t just the preserve of the footloose and fancy-free!
Take a look at our family-friendly recommendations and check out what this vibrant city has to offer.
1. THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF MANHATTAN
Located on West Side, this eclectic museum has five floors of fun. Including a fire truck you can drive, a tongue you can slide down and a dragon you can feed books to, amongst other things.
Head outside and further adventure awaits, with the outdoor water area, featuring toy boats and fishing rods.
2. STORYTIME AT HOUSING WORKS
If you’re a little tired of the same old rhymes, why not experience a toddler group New York style.
Housing Works (downtown) is a cool venue, with great coffee and refreshments, combined with an array of second hand books to be bought or browsed.
Go along on a Wednesday when it plays host to Amy & Jo’s Storytime and Sing-a-long, a group for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers and their carers.
3. CENTRAL PARK
Of course, no visit to NY would be complete without a visit to Central Park.
With so much to do for children, you could easily spend the day there. Visit the Children’s Zoo, the carousel, play boats or rent a bike (child seats available).
Or just enjoy the simple pleasures of the park; take a picnic, eat an ice-cream, visit the playgrounds, run on the many grassy lawns or watch the street musicians who visit.
At lunchtime, why not visit one of the many deli’s local to the park and grab an authentic NY lunch of pastrami on rye and a coffee to take back to the park.
4. SEE A SHOW
Of course, you have to pay a visit to Broadway and with many shows suitable for children, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Try The Lion King, Matilda or Aladdin for a magical, family-friendly theatrical experience. For older children, Wicked (the story behind Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West) is always a popular choice.
5. THE AMERICAN MUSEUM
For your dinosaur-mad pre-schoolers, a visit to the American Museum is most definitely in order.
Play in the Discovery room, where you can find flashlights and go digging for fossils or visit the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, where a full-scale model of a blue whale hangs from the ceiling.
Right opposite the museum is a branch of the renowned Shake Shack, perfect for an all-American bite to eat!
So you see, there’s fun for all ages in the Big Apple, and with our luggage delivery services you can even make the journey a joy.
